The 2025 winner was Shonah M’gadzah (Guildhall) for ‘Take Flight’

Shonah M’gadzah and Andy Mahaffey of AC Entertainment Technologies
“My pick is Shona M’gadzah – University of Glasgow – ‘Take Flight’ – The lighting design makes great use of darkness, which gives the lights a delicate feel; there’s a nice balance of brightness, speed, and colour” – Azusa Ono – TPA 2025 Nominee
“What a treat to experience all of this incredible work -thanks so much for the opportunity to be involved in this. My favourite was Take Flight. Shona’s lighting has gorgeous, bold musicality, I loved the use of colour (particularly the red slashing through a sea of cooler tones) and the development of palette through twinkling darkness to transcendent arcing beams -euphoric.” – Sarah Readman – Outstanding Achievement in Theatre Awardee TPA 2025
“My choice would be Shona M’gadzah – ‘Take Flight’. I thought the choice and use of colours was excellent. The variety and quality of textures and shapes within the design was very well done. I love to feel each part/layer of the music represented somehow in a design, and Shona’s gave each distinct element of the track representation whilst still tying them all together. It felt like I would have had the best experience in Shona’s design if I was at that performance.” – Simeon Miller – TPA 2025 Nominee
