ALEXANDRA PALACE - JUNE 5th, 2025

Alexandra Palace

STUDENT VIRTUAL LIGHTING DESIGN AWARD

Sponsored by

Lighting design and lighting programming students were invited to create a three minute animation using FREE WYSIWYG student edition visualisation software of a light show to music of their choice within a detailed model of the Royal Albert Hall, students could use the embedded orchestra layout or make a staging and performer design of their own.

The RAH model was provided by Durham Marenghi and had a geometric truss structure and eight DMX universes of patched Ayrton lighting fixtures upon it. Though we preferred that entrants used the patched overhead lighting rig within the WYSIWYG model they were allowed to change their preferred fixture type to other manufacturers, add SFX such as lasers, particle generators and atmospherics.

Thanks to CAST for the duration of this competition the 149 USD fee for an 8 universe Educational software version was waived for students in the UK.

This year the nominees were

James Addison – Rose Bruford

Max Tate – Rose Bruford

Shona M’gadzah – University of Glasgow

Toby Ison – Guildhall

Ziggy Bornas – LaGuardia High School USA
